Boo! Decor Drab to Fabulous Blog Hop Challenge!

Welcome to the first every Drab to Fabulous Blog Hop! Several months ago I saw a similar hop on Jennifer Rizzo. I read through all their posts and thought, hey! I want to do that! It sounds like so much fun! So this is how the Drab to Fab hop was born. Here is a quick summary of how this works. A few ladies from around the web joined up with me to have a little bit of fun. We were each to find something from a garage sale or thrift store that looked like it might have some potential. Then we had to ship it off to someone else. So basically we didn't know what we were going to get. Once we got our mystery item we had to do something with it to turn it from a drab thrift store find into a fabulous piece of decor!

These are all the wonderful ladies that joined in on this fun challenge!

You probably just came here from Ashley's blog. If not, don't worry, you can still make it all the way around the hop! Here is what Ashley sent me in the mail. Two cute little wreaths that are maybe 6" wide. It took quite a bit of thinking to figure out just what I was going to do with them.

But after lots of thought and little bit of work I turned those two little wreaths into this spooky decor for my front door.

I picked up a wooden "B", some orange burlap ribbon, and the corded pumpkin bell hanger from the craft store. I gave the wreaths and the B a good coat of black spray paint. I wanted to add some texture to the B so I used some black modeling paste with a large polka dot stencil to apply it on. I just let it dry then coated it with some matte sealer.

For the bottom wreath with the bells I cut the cords off of the pumpkin bell hanger and used some craft wire to loop them all together and looped the wire around the ribbon. Then I hot glued the first end of the ribbon to the wreath, wrapped the ribbon around, and hot glued the other end of the ribbon around the cord ends. This is actually on the front hidden behind the big bow which was also hot glued in place.

To join the two wreaths I simply glued one end of the ribbon, wrapped it around the wreaths, folded the end of the ribbon under, and hot glued the end of the ribbon.

For the hanger I just took a length of about 24" of ribbon, folded it in half, tied a knot near the loop end, then wrapped the other two ends around the top of the B and hot glued both ends in place.

Now it is hanging nice and pretty on the front door!

Now head on over to Lindsay's blog to see what I sent her to work with!
